The Bertha L. and Moses H. Cone Society
The Cone Health tradition of caring for our communities began decades ago. In 1911, following the death of Moses H. Cone in 1908, his wife Bertha entrusted that her shares of the family inheritance would be directed toward the building of a hospital in his memory. Following Bertha’s death in 1947, her generous gift, as well as gifts and bequests from other family members, created The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. Cone Health continues today with the same mission established in the hospital’s articles of incorporation on May 29, 1911, signed by Bertha Cone and her brother-in-law Bernard, that, “No patient shall be refused admittance because of inability to pay.” To recognize donors who are continuing this philanthropic tradition, the Cone Society was created in 2010.
Cone Society Membership Donors contribute $1,000 or more during a given calendar year. We are honored to recognize individuals and organizations who reach the following cumulative and planned giving milestones.
